39 Tonnes of Co2 Reduced
In 2024 alone, this impactful project is expected to cut CO2 emissions by 39 tonnes, demonstrating a significant step towards Greencore Homes' commitment to sustainability.
The Project Background
Celebrated for its commitment to integrating solar PV into all its designs aimed at achieving net-zero energy consumption, Greencore Homes sought to implement these sustainability practices at its Bicester factory and office space. However, lease agreements and local grid export limitations, capped at 137 kW, posed significant challenges.

In response, our funding partner has spearheaded the design and implementation of a bespoke SmartGrid renewable energy system for the site. This advanced system encompasses a robust 726-panel, 302kWp rooftop solar array along with a 100kW / 200kWh battery storage solution, navigating through the complexities of legal, regulatory and technical barriers to facilitate this installation.

Achieving Sustainable Milestones
This cooperative effort not only sets a new standard in the overcoming of regulatory and technical challenges but also serves as a benchmark for the expansion of rooftop solar energy across the UK. The SmartGrid employs state-of-the-art technology to optimise the use of available roof space for solar energy generation, thereby substantially reducing electricity costs and carbon emissions.
Project Impact
Electricity Cost Reduction: Expectation of an 18% reduction.

Environmental Benefit: Anticipated avoidance of 39 tonnes of CO2 emissions in the year 2024.

With this pioneering solar project, Greencore Homes underscores its leadership in sustainable development. Through strategic partnership and innovative approaches, it is setting the stage for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future in the building industry.
